johnny dollar's vault
retro pop culture and various local observations and ramblings.
johnny dollar's vault resides in the basement of stately dollar maisonTM, amongst the wine cellar, tiki bar, and finicky electrical panel. from time to time i will unearth various artifacts from either there or from the random crevices of my mind.
please visit the new and improved pig cookin' post!
NOTE: this blog will NOT deal with any recent pop culture (i.e. since about 1990) or topical issues, so if you're looking for discussion about britney baracko jacko flacco, look elsewhere, lol

there's been talk about who has the world's largest slice of pizza, and i dunno if i can back up saying that this place has the biggest.
but at angelo's at 3600 keswick road in hampden, for $3.24 you can get a single slice that will easily fill you up as much as ordering a whole pizza at any other place.
check out the city paper for scale - the crust is easily 18" wide. and de crust is the crux of the matter, it's wonderful and thin - you may wish to jazz your slice up with spices or peppers to give it extra zing, but i highly recommend that if you are in this town, to try a world's largest slice at least once. you'll be glad you did.

Damn that looks good I can slmost smell it.
I miss the way they used to make Pizza back in the 70's up in New York where I grew up.
They would fold over the crust on the edges so that it would puff up really big by bubbles trapped inside. You folded it up and went at it as long as you could wait for it to cool...
Damn, that looks good! I love pizza and will have to make a trip to Angelo's to try it. Thanks for the heads up!
mmm pizza.
good if you can get somea this, sorry if you can't...
Unfortunately, it's not their best tasting slice of pizza. Kind of bland. I much prefer their smaller slices.
i have to admit i have eaten nothing but their big slice. next time i am supa hungry i'll do a side by side comparison. but as mentioned i do recommend jazzin' the slices up a bit, and luckily they do provide tableside spices. good piece of info tho, thx d00d
Haven't had Angelo's in a while. We did order a tomato and anchovy pizza from Bella Roma on the other end of the Avenue. I'd say they have the world's largest anchovies seen on pizza, if you like anchovies, which many people don't.
So you like pizza-pie too? Man, that's a lot of pizza! Great cheap date though. Thanks!
danielle: i loves me some anchovies. i'll have to scope that action out.
summer: if there's one thing the dollar is, is cheap! :) i ate mine in one go (some male domination impulse it would seem) but the wife had the rest of hers for lunch today. so less than two bucks for a tasty meal ~ mmmmm.
I dunno J$, I've got a pretty big fucking head.
LOL, i refrain from any 6th-grade jokes in response.
That slice is gorgeous. There's a place in Hoboken, New Jersey called Seven Star that served (still serves?) super-mega sized slices almost as big as Angelo's.
I know your blog is about Baltimore, but reading some of your posts makes me reminisce about the few years I lived in New Jersey. It seems that the 'cuisine' is very much the same.
Love your blog,
Tiki Chris
thanks tiki chris!
i'd like to think that my blog is about forgotten pop culture and random crap, and some of it happens to happen in baltimore ~ it i lived in hoboken it would be about forgotten pop culture and random crap that happens in hoboken :)
and i dig the rapa nui blog as well! *group hug* :D
I'm surprised that there aren't smaller slices orbiting around it.
tfg: lollerpalooza!
Mmmm. Big head pizza.
Yeah, I was gonna write about my slice of pizza as the largest in the world, then I found your site.
True, yours is bigger.
But Koronet Pizza in New York City, I would argue, is still edible by hand as pizza was meant to be (barely).
Yours is a bloated monstrosity necessitating some kind of mechanical device to help you hold it and eat it at the same time.
Looks good, though

fair enough, i think hand portability should perhaps be a criterion for the international community. perhaps there should be separate categories for big slices ;D
I would like for you to come try a slice at 36th avenue pizza then judge us
